Holding Space is a Work of Art
Elien Ronse is a white hetero cis woman highly educated visual artist living in an empty office-building in Brussels, relating in non-monogamous ways and financially living under the poverty line (in Belgium). Often friends, family and others are involved in her making processes, as Elien’s work arises from the relational and direct surroundings. Within this she tries to acknowledge and highlight our interdependency while struggling with internalised individualism coming forth of the late-capitalist society she is part of. She likes reading all sorts of texts, talking but not endlessly, re-arranging spaces, roaming through cities, having a drink with unknown others, sharing silences and background sounds, observing without judging (as far
as this is possible), being in (poly-)love with a partnered person, carrying around
a camera, laughing out loud, chewing gum, writing without purpose and much more.

“I’ll be right with you” is a video-work all about ‘waiting’, made in a period in which Elien was asked ‘to wait’. It is a compilation of video-footage found online and video materials in which the artist herself talks in front of the camera.
Throughout different chapters we explore the joys and frustrations of waiting, we learn how we can ask someone to wait or how to measure our time while waiting. There come up lots of tips on becoming patient or letting go of control. We also dive into a historical feeling of waiting experienced by women. Altogether the video takes us on
a journey of, sometimes, contradictional thoughts and advises on this intangible topic.
In the video "Finally!! My kitchen tour for you guys!" Elien shows you around in her new kitchen, fully equipped with designs by İsmigül (Gul) Atec, Rika Godderis, Marleen Lievens, Chris Rotsaert, Fadime Cetinkaya, Derya, Canan Ates Karakaya, Sultan Altintas and Leyla.
